Two Trojans Set for NWSL Title Match
October 01, 2015 | Women's Soccer
PORTLAND, Ore. – Trojan great Amy Rodriguez goes for her second National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) title tonight with FC Kansas City against Trojan rookie Caroline Stanley and her tough Seattle Reign side on Thursday evening at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.
The contest will be televised on FOX Sports 1 at 6:30 p.m. PT.
Rodriguez, who added World Cup champion to her lengthy resume this past summer, which includes two gold medals, an NCAA title, is looking for her second-straight NWSL title tonight. Despite missing nine games while she played with the U.S. National Team in the Women's World Cup this summer, Rodriguez leads her squad with six goals (in 11 games). Kansas City FC enters the match with a 9-6-5 record.
Stanley, a 2015 graduate and a three-year Trojan starter, adds depth to the Seattle Reign goalkeeping core, where she gets to learn behind U.S. National Team keeper Hope Solo. Stanley made her NWSL debut vs. where she earned her first professional win. Seattle is the favorite in the contest, having won the NWSL Shield. They are 13-3-4 on the year.
Last season, when these two squads met in the finals, Rodriguez netted both goals as FC Kansas City defeated Seattle, 2-1.
