On the heels of her sixth place finish in the RICOH Women's British Open on Sunday (Aug. 4), former USC All-American and current LPGA standout Lizette Salas was named to the prestigious 12-member 2013 U.S. Solheim Cup team.
The 13th edition of The Solheim Cup will be played August 16-18 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado. The U.S. Team seeks to keep their undefeated record on home soil intact in the biennial match-play competition.
Salas finished sixth at the British Open at 3-under 285 (68-72-72-73), five behind American winner Stacy Lewis. Among the nine fellow Trojans playing in the event, four others made the cut, including Nicole Castrale, who tied for ninth at 1-under 287.
Candie Kung tied for 25th at 4-over 292 while Mikaela Parmlid tied for 36th at 5-over 293 and Dewi Claire Schreefel tied for 56th at 9-over 297.
The first eight spots on the U.S. Solheim Cup team went to the top eight players in the U.S. Solheim Cup standings, based on play since the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open, before Salas was a full-time player.
Salas was selected with Morgan Pressel as the two highest rated remaining players in the Rolex Rankings. Salas was No. 19.
