Trojans In Action At FINA World Championships
July 22, 2013 | Men's Water Polo
July 22, 2013
The 2013 FINA World Championships are underway in Barcelona, Spain, with plenty of Trojan talent on display across the board. Fifteen USC men and women are sprinkled among the rosters of the world's top teams, competing for medals as members of nine different national teams. The World Championships are running July 21-August 3.
On the women's side, there are nine Women of Troy representing six different nations at this year's World Championships. For the men, USC has Trojans competing for the United States, Australia and Greece. Every Trojan in the water has won at least one national championship during their USC careers.
The most recent champs are current Women of Troy Jayde Appel and Hannah Buckling (Australia), Flora Bolonyai (Hungary) and Anni Espar (Spain) -- who won the 2013 NCAA title with the USC women. Also a member of that squad was Kelly Mendoza, who was named an alternate for the United States team in Barcelona.
For the USC men, three members of USC's 2012 national championship team are spread through three countries. Recently graduated Michael Rosenthal is playing in his first World Championships with Team USA, possibly squaring off against two returning Trojans in Australian goalie James Clark and Greece standout Kostas Genidounias.
