Trojan Trio Qualifies For U.S. Women's Open

Freshmen Annie Park and Kyung Kim and sophomore Doris Chen - all of whom helped the No. 1 USC women's golf team win the 2013 NCAA Championships in record fashion last week - have each qualified for the 2013 U.S. Women's Open scheduled for June 27-30 at the Sebonack G.C. in Southampton, N.Y.
Park, the 2013 NCAA and Pac-12 individual title winner and the national and conference golfer and freshman of the year, maintained her hot play and earned her amateur exemption into the U.S. Women's Open with a pair of 68s to tie for first at the qualifying section at the Edgewood C.C. in River Vale, N.J. on Thursday (May 30).
Park, a native of Levittown, N.Y., will have a short commute to the U.S. Women's Open, her hometown a little more than an hour's drive to the Sebonack G.C.
"It was my goal to play it, ever since I knew about it [coming to Long Island]," said Park, who played 36 holes Thursday without a bogey. Park also played in the U.S. Women's Open last year, though she missed the cut.
Kim, a WGCA All-American first teamer with Park, outlasted Casey Danielson in a five-hole playoff that spanned Thursday and Friday to claim the final spot at the sectional at Bent Tree C.C. in Dallas.
Chen punched her ticket to the Open on Tuesday after carding a 144 at the Heathrow (Fla.) C.C.
Among the former Trojans who will play in the Open include LPGA golfers Lizette Salas, Dewi Claire Schreefel, Jennifer Rosales, Nicole Castrale, Candie Kung and Irene Cho. Incoming freshman Gabriella Then is also playing, as an amateur.
