Junior Nikola Vavic served up four goals for the Trojans in the championship match of the NorCal Tournament, helping secure USC's third straight title at the tourney and working himself onto the honor roll for MPSF Player of the Week -- the first such honor for the two-time All-American.
Vavic finished the tournament with 12 goals overall, including his game-high four in the 7-6 win over UCLA in the championship. Vavic scored seven on day one - three vs. Pomona-Pitzer and four vs. Pepperdine. In the semifinal vs. host Stanford, Vavic scored early in the fourth period to give USC a 7-6 lead in an eventual 10-9 overtime win. With his weekend performance, Vavic now leads USC with 26 goals this season and climbs to No. 21 all-time on USC's career scoring list with 116 goals. Vavic is the first Trojan of 2012 to be named MPSF Player of the Week.
The Trojans remain undefeated on the year with an 8-0 overall record after this weekend's run to the NorCal crown. USC next turns to host California on Sunday (Sept. 23) in a 1 p.m. MPSF matchup that will be televised live on ESPNU from McDonald's Swim Stadium.
