The No. 3 USC women's golf team, the NCAA title winner in 2003 and 2008 and the runner-up in 2010, will continue its quest for the program's third national crown as a No. 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championships Central Regional, the NCAA announced Monday (April 30).
NCAA East, Central and West Regionals, each made up of 24 teams, will be conducted May 10-12 to determine the championship final field. The top eight teams plus two individuals from each field will advance to the championship round, scheduled for May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt. A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.
The Women of Troy have finished in the top 5 six years in a row at the NCAA Championships, have six top 4 finishes in the past eight years and 11 in the top 7 since 1998.
The Trojans have won seven NCAA regional crowns overall, including five in the past six years. The past five came in 2006 (Central), 2007 (Central), 2008 (West), 2010 (Central) and 2011 (West). USC is looking to advance out of the NCAA Regional for the 15th year in a row in its 21st consecutive NCAA appearance (the last 15 under 16th-year Head Coach Andrea Gaston).
