Trojans Take Spots For Pac-12 Finals

OJAI, CALIF. - USC's No. 3 seeded doubles duo of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria are taking aim at a Pac-12 title tomorrow after a winning day in doubles territory. The Trojans go up against the top seeds in the Pac-12 Doubles Championship match tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in Ojai, Calif. Meanwhile, it'll be an all-Trojan title match in the Pac-12 Invitational Singles draw tomorrow between USC freshman Gabriella DeSimone and junior Valeria Pulido.
Pulido dropped her first set of the tournament in a tiebreaker but bounced right back in her semifinal match to punch her ticket to the invitational final with a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-3 dominant comeback against ASU's Leighann Sahagun. On the other side of the bracket, DeSimone kept her slate clean with another straight-set win, topping Arizona's Sarah Landsman with a smooth 6-2, 6-2 win to take her place in the final against teammate Pulido.
Third-seeded Christian/Santamaria tacked up two solid wins today, first dropping an Oregon pair 8-2 in the quarterfinals before serving up a dominating 8-1 win over No. 2 seeded Goransson/Schutting of Cal in the semifinals. Fellow Trojan team Valeria Pulido / Zoe Scandalis scooted into the semis when injury took out their quarterfinal opponents from UCLA. Up against top-seeded Burdette/Gibbs of Stanford in the semis, Pulido/Scandalis fell in that one to come up one match short of a potential all-Trojan doubles final. USC's Danielle Lao / Alison Ramos were upended in the quarterfinals by the Cal pair Goransson/Schutting.
Sophomore Christian already has experience in the conference finals scene, having reached the Pac-10 doubles final last season as a freshman with teammate Maria Sanchez.
