BREAKDOWN: Freshman 7-0, 215-pound forward Evan Mobley was a dominant scoring and defensive presence in the paint for the Trojans in his one season at USC. He was named to the 2020-21 first-team John R. Wooden All-America team and was also named to the All-America second teams for the Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches and U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America. He signed with USC on Nov. 13, 2019 as the No. 1 ranked recruit, the first time that USC’s men’s basketball program has ever signed the No. 1-ranked men’s basketball player.
2020-21: Mobley was the only Trojan to start every game (33) and he averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 2.4 assists. He became the first player ever to be named Pac-12 Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season and only the second from a major conference to accomplish the feat (Anthony Davis of Kentucky in 2012). He scored in double figures 31 of 33 games and had 7 rebounds or more 26 times. Mobley set the USC freshman blocks record with 95 which ranks second on USC’s overall single season best list behind Taj Gibson (100 in 2009). Mobley’s block total is also the second-most ever by a Pac-12 freshman. Mobley also set a Pac-12 record by being selected as conference Freshman of the Week seven times. He led all Pac-12 players with 12 double-doubles and also ranked first in blocks and rebounds (286), while ranking third in field goal percentage (.578) and eighth in points per game. He opened his collegiate career with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 dunks vs. CBU on Nov. 21...his 21 points were the most by a USC freshman in his first game since O.J. Mayo scored 32 in 2007. He posted his first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds vs. BYU on Dec. 1. His second double-double came on Dec. 8 vs. UC Irvine with 22 points and 11 rebounds...he also had 5 blocks. He had scored in double figures and had 7 rebounds or more in every game until having no FG attempts and finishing with 3 points and 5 rebounds vs. Utah on Jan. 2. Bounced back with 19 points and 11 rebounds at Arizona on Jan. 7 for his third double-double. He followed that game up with 19 points and career-bests of 13 rebounds and 6 blocks.
He scored 19 points, had 11 rebounds and 6 blocks vs. UCR on Jan. 12 for his fifth double-double of the season. He had 12 points and matched a season-high with 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double on Jan. 19 at Oregon St. He scored a then season-best 25 points and had 8 rebounds at Cal on Jan. 23...made 12 of 15 FTs. Posted his 7th double-double with 14 points and a season-high tying 13 rebounds vs. Oregon State on Jan. 28. He scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds for his 8th double-double on Feb. 2 at Stanford and then had 20 points & 11 rebounds for 9th double-double on Feb. 13 at Washington State...matched career high with 6 blocks. He scored 22 points, had 9 rebounds, 3 blocks & a career-best 7 assists vs. ASU on Feb. 17. He led USC with 13 points, 11 rebounds & 3 blocks at UCLA on March 6...his blocks gave him 77 for the year, a USC frosh record. Mobley scored a career-best 26 points, had 9 rebounds and 5 blocks in both of USC’s Pac-12 Tournanent games and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He scored in double figures in all four of USC’s NCAA Tournament games, with double-doubles in the first-round game vs. Drake (17 points/11 rebounds) and in the second-round game against Kansas (10 points/13 rebounds).
HIGH SCHOOL: Mobley graduated in 2020 from Rancho Christian School in Temecula, Calif. where he averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 4.6 assists during his senior season. He was named the Morgan Wooten National High School Player of the Year. He was also a 2020 McDonald’s All-American, is a two-time Gatorade California Player of the Year and a 2020 Naismith Player of the Year finalist.
PERSONAL: Evan was born on June 18, 2001 in San Diego, Calif. His parents are Eric and Nicol Mobley and he has one brother, Isaiah.
