As the 2012 Olympics in London near, USC swimming great and 2008 Olympic champion Rebecca Soni has partnered with the host city's Amateur Swimming Association to improve swimming in England and elsewhere.
Soni, who won gold in the 200-meter breaststroke in Beijing in 2008 and recently won gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter breast at the 2011 World Championships, is helping launch the University of East London Newham Swimming Club.
Under the direction of renowned Italian coach Guiseppe Caporaso, the new UEL club is a partnership between the ASA, the University of East London, the London Borough of Newham and the Newham Swimming Club.
Soni gave a talk at today's launch to British swimmers and students. She and other U.S. swimmers will benefit from the world-class sports science facilities at UEL through a partnership with the U.S. Olympic team during the Olympics. Many athletes from the U.S. will use their facilities, from dorms and cafeterias to gyms and playing fields.
Soni is among seven U.S. stars currently touring Britain to bring American fans an inside scoop on the host nation. Click here for a link to the list, where you can also follow their travels.
