
Ryan Cook Gets Major League Call To The Diamondbacks

Former USC pitcher Ryan Cook (Clovis/Clovis HS) became the 98th Trojan to play in the major leagues after being called up Wednesday by the Arizona Diamondbacks as a reliever. He took the loss in the 5-2 decision against Milwaukee after allowing three runs in the 10th on three hits.
Cook was called up from Mobile (AA) after posting a 1-4 record and 2.25 ERA with 14 walks and 50 strikeouts in 34 games.
During his three years at USC from 2006 through 2008, Cook had an 18-13 record with a 5.33 ERA. He made 42 starts in 46 games with two complete games and one save. In 251 2/3 innings, he allowed 309 hits and 149 earned runs with 92 walks and 150 strikeouts with opponents hitting .312 against him.
He recorded a 7-5 mark with a 5.11 ERA in his 2008 junior season, making 14 starts and striking out 67 in 91 2/3 innings. On March 22 against Arizona, he threw a complete game shutout as he allowed only three hits against the Wildcats with a walk and five strikeouts.
Cook was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 27th round of the 2008 major league draft.
