LOS ANGELES - Brandon Garcia's RBI double in the top of the 14th inning Tuesday gave the USC Trojans a 7-6 win over the Pepperdine Waves in the continuation of a suspended game from April 12 in Malibu. The game was resumed in the top of the 12th at Dedeaux Field.
The official duration of the game was four hours and 44 minutes.
With a 5-5 score at the time of the suspension, the Trojans scored a run in the 12th on Jake Hernandez's RBI groundout, but the Waves answered with a run of their own. Joe Sever's doubled to right tied the game as the Trojans would load the bases with one out. Center fielder Joe De Pinto was brought in as the fifth outfielder as Harrison Kain hit a high chopper right to De Pinto, who was right at second base. De Pinto touched second base and threw to first for the game-saving double play.
In the 14th inning, James Roberts walked and scored on Garcia's double as Ryan Cabral (1-0) got the win with 2 2/3 innings, allowing only one hit with five strikeouts.
Ricky Oropesa finished the game officially with a 2-for-5 game and three RBI while four Trojans added two hits. Tony Cooper and Joe Sever helped the Waves with three hits each.
