USC Readies For Pac-10 T&F Championships

THIS WEEK - The USC track and field team will be at the Pac-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Arizona at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. on May 13-14. The meet will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by Prime Ticket on May 20 at 9 p.m. (PT) and on Fox Sports West on May 21 at 3 p.m. PT). The meet will also be shown at various times on Prime Ticket from May 21-June 5. Paul Sunderland, Tom Feuer, Joanna Hayes and Samantha Steele will provide the play-by-play, commentary and interviews.
TROJANS OFF TO A SLOW START AT 2011 PAC-10s - Redshirt senior Shana Woods was in ninth place after the first day of competition at the 2011 Pac-10 Multi-Events Championships, but had to withdraw with a slight hamstring injury. Woods had placed fifth at the Pac-10 Multi-Events Championships in 2007, third in 2008 and fifth in 2009. With USC having no decathletes entered and Woods withdrawing, the Trojans currently stand tied for sixth in the men's competition and tied for fifth in the women's competition with zero points after one event.
USC AT THE PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS - The USC men's team has won 10 Pac-10 team titles and finished second last season with a record 156 points for a second-place finisher. USC's women's team has captured one team title (1996) and last season placed fourth. In the last 14 seasons the Trojan men have claimed four Pac-10 titles, the last coming in 2006. They have scored 100 or more points in 12 of the last 14 seasons. The USC women have finished no lower than fourth since winning the title in 1996 and in 20 of the 24 seasons of women's competition. The Women of Troy have scored 99 or more points in 13 of the last 15 meets.
RETURNING PAC-10 SCORERS - USC has nine men and six women on this year's team which scored at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships, including defending individual champions Joey Hughes (400m) and Trey Henderson (Hammer Throw). All of USC's returning scorers on the men's side are and how they finished are: Brendan Ames (2nd-LJ), Amechi Egbe (2nd-4x100m), Henderson (1st-Hammer), Hughes (2nd-200m, 1st-400m, 1st-4x400m, 2nd-4x100m), Bryshon Nellum (3rd-400m, 1st-4x400m), Oscar Spurlock (2nd-110m HH), Cooper Thompson (2nd-Javelin), Duane Walker (8th-400m IH) and Reggie Wyatt (3rd-400m IH, 1st-4x400m). Women's team returning scorers are: Tamara Baumann (4th-Hammer), Alitta Boyd (5th-LJ, 5th-TJ, Zsofia Erdelyi (3rd-5000m), Marissa Minderler (5th-Shot, 6th-Javelin), Dalilah Muhammad (2nd-400m IH) and Aareon Payne (2nd-4x100m).
USC HAS 24 TOP 30 MARKS - USC has a combined 24 marks this season which rank in the top 30 nationally. The men have 11 top 30 marks (Hughes-400m, Mance-400m, Shaw-800m and 1500m, Spurlock-110m HH, Ames-110m HH, Wyatt-400m IH, Henderson-hammer, Thompson-javelin, the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay) and the women have 13 (Davis-100m and 200m, Payne-200m, Erdelyi-5000m and 10000m, Ali-100m HH and HJ, Blackburn-100m HH, Boyd-triple jump, Muhammad-400m IH, Minderler-hammer, Ozorai-hammer and 4x100m relay).
