
Triggs Pitches USC To 2-1 Win At Washington

SEATTLE - Junior right-hander Andrew Triggs (Nashville, Tenn.) struck out a career-high 10 batters Thursday as the USC Trojans beat the Washington Huskies, 2-1, in a Pac-10 Conference series opener. Triggs allowed just one run on five hits and one walk.
USC goes to 17-20 overall and 7-6 in conference while Washington falls to 11-24 overall, 2-8 in Pac-10 play.
Geoff Brown took the loss for Washington, going eight innings and allowing only two runs on six hits.
The Huskies scored their lone run in the first when Jacob Lamb hit an RBI double to left, scoring Brendan Gardner-Young from first. With two outs in the USC second, Adam Landecker singled and Kevin Swick walked. James Roberts then hit a bloop double to shallow right that Lamb was unable to get to from second base as two runs scored for the Trojans.
Triggs retired 11 straight batters until giving up a bunt single to lead off the UW sixth by Gardner-Young. The Huskies had the tying run at third in the sixth and seventh innings, but Triggs was able to work out of both jams. Joe Meggs singled in the eighth, but Triggs rolled up the 6-3 double play to end the inning.
The series continues tomorrow at 6 p.m. with a noon start on Sunday. Both games will be broadcast live (audio only) on usctrojans.com.
Notes: Andrew Triggs previously had struck out nine batters twice in a game during his career...Matt Foat went 0-for-4 to snap his season-high hitting streak snapped at 11 games...the Trojans have won three straight against the Huskies after Washington had won eight straight in the series.
