SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- The USC women's soccer team fell behind in the first half and was unable to fight back, despite out-shooting host Utah in a Pac-12 clash today in Salt Lake City. The Trojans pushed to get to the back of the net in the match, but wound up with a 3-0 loss to the Utes to snap a three-game win streak held by USC entering the game. USC goes to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in Pac-12 play, while Utah improves to 9-8-1, 5-4-0.
Utah struck not even two minutes into the game for an early 1-0 advantage, then added to the lead with and 29th-minute header that got past freshman goalkeeper Carley Pennington. USC out-shot Utah 7-3 in the first half, but those three shots from the Utes all caused trouble for the Trojans. In the 30th minute, another Utah goal was tallied, and the Utes stayed up 3-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Trojans continued to press, getting off nine shots in the next 45 minutes and forcing four saves out of second-half goalkeeper Cheyanne Mulcock. But still, USC could not find a way to break through, and the Trojans got stuck with a 3-0 final loss.
USC looks to bounce back on Sunday (Oct. 30) on a trip to Boulder, Colo., to face Colorado in a 1 p.m. MT matchup.
