Soni Wins Second Pan Pac Crown

Former USC All-American Rebecca Soni won her fourth major race in a matter of weeks, cruising to a win in the 200-meter breaststroke Saturday on the final day of the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine.
Soni won in 2:20.69, crushing the Pan Pac record of 2:23.64 (Penny Henys, 1999) as well as her own top-ranked time of 2010, which was 2:21.41. Her winning effort is good for the sixth-fastest time ever, a list that includes two of her own swims (2:20.22 and 2:20.38).
The 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the race and the former world record holder in it, Soni finished well ahead of second place Leisel Jones of Australia (2:23.23) while Canada's Annamay Pierse was third (2:234.65). Soni also won the 100m breast on Thursday.
Trojan sophomore Haley Anderson also swam Saturday, finishing fourth in the 1500m free in 16:18.10. She was also eighth in the 800m free earlier in the week.
