In her second season in the pros and first season with the new Philadelphia Independence, former Trojan Amy Rodriguez has busted loose on the scoring front and currently is the No. 2 goal scorer in the Women's Professional Soccer league this year. Rodriguez, a 2007 NCAA Champion at USC and a 2008 Olympian with the USA, made the move to the pro ranks after her senior season at Troy. She's scored seven goals for the Independence to date, and her domination on the pitch garnered her selection as the WPS Player of the Month in June.

Along with five goals and two assists in June, Rodriguez also took to the field for the WPS All-Star Game. The explosive forward tallied a goal there, as well, before returning to Philadelphia to continue to help power the Independence. Rodriguez and the Independence are currently in second place in the league. Her current goal scoring tally has her trailing Brazilian star Marta for the league lead.
Also a regular on the U.S. national team now, Rodriguez is lined up to compete for Team USA this month for a pair of matches against Sweden. She and the USA will face Sweden on July 13 and July 17 in Nebraska and Connecticut, respectively.
