Five members of USC's back-to-back NCAA championship teams capped up for international action in Hungary in February. Members of the U.S. Men's National Team, Shea Buckner, J.W. Krumpholz, Matt Sagehorn and Jordan Thompson were all called in for Team USA's recent trip to Hungary for competition at the Volvo Cup, while goalie Joel Dennerley was in action for his Australian National Team.
The five Trojans are fresh off a run to a second straight NCAA championship with USC's 2009 title in December. Goalie Joel Dennerley took a break from his Trojan teammates to cap up as Australia's goalie in the competition in Hungary. And although their USC playing careers are now complete, seniors Buckner, Krumpholz, Sagehorn and Thompson teamed back up as members of the U.S. National Team. The USA squad played three games at the Volvo Cup, facing Dennerley's Australia squad as well as Canada and Hungary. Buckner and Krumpholz both scored in the final game against host Hungary - which was a rematch of the 2008 Olympic gold-medal game in which Krumpholz competed for Team USA.
The USA's group of Trojans will splash down again soon for action at the March 13-14 edition of the USA Water Polo Men's National Team Trials Series. There will be plenty of familiar faces at the event, which is designed as a tryout process for upcoming U.S. National Team rosters. Current USC players Matt Burton, Brian Boswell, Michael Rosenthal, Will Simon and Stephen Siri are also involved in the Trials, along with incoming Trojan Nikola Vavic and USC senior Justin Rappel.
