USC Starts Season in Style At Rossi Relays

The USC track and field team kicked off the 2010 season at the Rossi Relays in Claremont, Calif. yesterday (Feb. 27) and took home seven first-place finishes.
On the women's side, sophomore Aareon Payne won the 100m dash with a time of 11.86, while senior Shalina Clarke took second with a time of 11.94. Also, sophomore Candace Bailey won the women's triple jump with a PR of 36-7 (11.15m), nearly two feet farther than her previous best.
The Trojan women also teamed up to with the 4x100m with a time of 48.13, the 4x800 with a time of 9:43.31 and the 4x1600m with a time of 20:33.30.
For the men, sophomore Blake Shaw won the 3000m race with a time of 8:40.93, just ahead of junior John Carley who had a PR of 8:41.02 to place second. Sophomore Tony Martinez also posted a PR with a time of 9:00.46, good for sixth.
USC's men's 4x800m relay team also grabbed first with a time of 7:43.86.
Senior Aven Wright placed second in the triple jump with a solid first-meet effort of 49-7.25 (15.12m).
