Oct. 21, 2010
The USC women's cross country team will close out the 2010 regular season at the 5K Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. on October 22 at 5:00 p.m.
The Trojans will be using this meet to evaluate some of their younger runners and to give several of the half-milers on the team a chance to compete in cross country in preparation for the outdoor track and field season.
Among the Trojans running on Friday will be redshirt sophomore Anniya Louis who has battled hip injuries which ultimately led to surgery. Louis has returned to health and is on target to compete during the track and field season this spring and will use this race as a measuring stick of her progress. Louis won the 2008 CIF state 800m championship as a senior at Culver City HS when she posted a time of 2:09.77. Louis' only other cross country race was in 2008 when she ran unattached at the Titan Invitational and placed 10th with a time of 18:48.
The only Trojan competing at the Titan Invitational and next week at the Pac-10 Championships is sophomore Kelly Owen. Owen had a 6K PR of 22:34 last week at the CS Northridge Invitational.
Other Trojans competing at the Titan Invitational on Friday are freshman Jaclyn Walles, senior Allison Rojewski who had a 5K best of 19:55 on this course last year and freshman Francesca Adamski, making her Trojan debut.
Running unattached will be Ariel Wright (a transfer from Brown) who has exhausted her cross country eligibility, but will compete for USC in track and field in the spring.
USC took second place at the 2009 Titan Invitational as Zsofia Erdelyi tuned up for the Pac-10 Championships while capturing the individual title.
The rest of the team is not scheduled to run at CS Fullerton, but will be training through in preparation for the Pac-10 Championships. Expected to represent USC at the Pac-10 cross country championships on Oct. 30 in Seattle, Wash. are senior Zsofia Erdelyi, senior Christine Cortez, junior Leah Gaeta, senior Dina Kitayama, senior Zara Lukens, redshirt sophomore Jessica Lundin and Owen.
