Troy Takes Fifth At Jack Nicklaus

Sophomore T.J. Vogel and freshman Jeffrey Kang tied for fourth to lead the USC men's golf team during the final round of the 2010 Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday (Oct. 12).
The Trojans finished fifth at 38-over 878 (287-299-292), 14 back of winner Oklahoma State (864) in a tough 10-team field. Illinois was second (870), Texas third (871), Arkansas fourth (872), LSU sixth (886), Purdue seventh (891), Ohio State eighth (894), Baylor ninth (900) and Kent State 10th (907).
Kang led USC Tuesday with a 1-over 71. He entered the 6th hole even and proceeded to eagle the par 5, 560-yard hole. He gave three strokes back on 8 and 9 but finished the final nine holes at par.
Vogel was 1-over going out and 2-over coming home in a 3-over 74 round. Both he and Kang finished at 5-over 215 for the event.
Sophomore Martin Trainer tied for 26th at 14-over 224 (74-78-72) and notched USC's second-lowest round Tuesday. He was 3-over going out but finished 1-under on the back 9, including birdies on 11 and 12.
Sophomore Stewart Hagestad was 35th at 17-over 227 (74-77-76) while junior Steve Lim tied for 39th at 19-over 229 (72-77-80).
