Joel Dennerley Earns MPSF Player Of The Week Honors

Playing in his first games as a Trojan, freshman goalie Joel Dennerley had a standout tournament at the Triton Invitational last weekend, helping lead USC to the championship and earning himself honors as MPSF Co-Player of the Week.
In his Trojan debut, Dennerley didn't allow a single goal during his time in the cage on the first day, putting up three scoreless periods in a 10-2 win over Pacific on Saturday. On Sunday, Dennerley went the whole way in two grueling overtime games. In a sudden-death match against LMU, Dennerley had 14 saves for the Trojans in that tight semifinal win. That same afternoon, Dennerley gathered in 9 saves in USC's 7-6 overtime win over Pepperdine in the tournament championship. All told in Dennerley's first weekend of competition as a Trojan, he had 33 saves and allowed 15 goals in 16 periods of action in the cage.
This is the first week of the conference award for the season as the Trojans now head into week two of action. USC will face LMU again this week in a match at the Lions home pool on Friday (Sept. 12) at 3 p.m. The Trojans then return to McDonald's Swim Stadium for USC's home opener against Long Beach State at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 13).
