USC junior J.W. Krumpholz has helped lift the U.S. men's water polo team back to the Olympic podium this summer. With an astounding run in Beijing, Krumpholz and Team USA earned the silver medal after falling 14-10 to defending Olympic champion Hungary. The Hungarians have now won three straight Olympic gold medals.
The only current collegiate player on the Team USA roster, Krumpholz filled his role well with Team USA. He earned a key five-meter penalty shot for the United States during the first half of the gold-medal game in Beijing. His work at the two-meter slot also came up big for the USA in the semifinals, where Team USA upset Croatia 10-5 to secure a place on the 2008 Olympic podium. In doing so, the United States ended a 20-year run without a medal at the Olympic Games. The USA last medalled in 1988, also taking silver in the Games.
Krumpholz's silver medal bring USC's total to 21 Trojans who have won medals in this 2008 Olympic Games. He will now return to Troy as a junior on the USC men's water polo team, which is aiming for a fourth straight trip to the NCAA championship match.
