LOS ANGELES --- Chris Valaika went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI while Bryan Fleming pitched seven strong innings as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated the USC Trojans, 9-2, in non conference action at Dedeaux Field.
Fleming (2-4) allowed just two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Gaucho center fielder Matt Emerick added a 3-for-5 night at the plate with an RBI.
UCSB (13-13) jumped on USC starter Shawn Olsen (3-2) early with three runs in the first. Valaika hit an RBI single, followed later by a two-run, bases-loaded single from Mario Lewis. The Trojans got a run in the second and third innings, but that was as close as they got on the evening.
