USC sophomore two-meter man Jovan Vranes earned his first career MPSF honor this week by sharing the MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week award. Vranes drilled four goals to lead the top-ranked Trojans in scoring as they posted a tight 10-9 win over No. 2 California last week.
Vranes accounted for all of USC's scoring in the first quarter, claiming a hat trick early as the Trojans stayed in stride with the Bears. When USC fell behind 8-5 entering the final period, Vranes drilled his fourth goal of the game to help spark an outstanding comeback by the Trojans. USC reeled off five straight goals to take the lead and secure an undefeated regular season in the Trojans' final home game of the year. Now 23-0 on the year and riding a 42-game winning streak, USC enters the MPSF Tournament, held Nov. 24-26 at UC Irvine.
Vranes is the third Trojan to win the MPSF weekly award, joining Juan Delgadillo and Adam Shilling as USC's 2006 honorees so far. He shares this week's honor with UCLA's Michael March.
