Top-ranked USC Remains Undefeated After Run Through Lancer Invite
September 25, 2005 | Men's Water Polo
Sept. 25, 2005
Playing in three consecutive games at the Lancer Invitational, the USC men's water polo picked up three quick wins. The Trojans pitched an all-out defensive effort against Occidental in the opener for a shutout win that was accompanied by a five-goal performance from Juraj Zatovic. With that single game's effort, Zatovic became the third best scorer in USC history with 170 career goals.
USC improved its 2005 record to 7-0 with its next game -- an 11-5 win over host Cal Baptist. After a slower start that had the Trojans in an early 2-2 tie, Thomas Hale helped guide USC into control, finishing off with three goals for the Trojans. Stephen Meinen and Dogan Aktay both tacked up their first collegiate goals for USC in the win.
The Trojans closed out the day with an exhibition contest against Riverside City College. USC pinned up a 14-2 decision in that game, although the victory will not count toward USC's overall record.
The Trojans next play at Pepperdine at noon on Saturday (Oct. 1).
