USC Powers To Opening Win Over Redlands At SoCal Tournament

NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. -- In pursuit of back-to-back Southern California Tournament titles, the No. 3 Trojans pinned up a decisive victory in their opening game of the 2005 tourney. USC held Redlands scoreless through three periods on the way to a 12-2 victory at Corona del Mar High School on Saturday morning. The Trojans continue group play at 4:10 p.m. against either Long Beach State or Pacific.
Against Redlands, USC jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime, with goalie Don Ricci mounting a force in the cage on his way to a whopping 14 saves in the game. Once again, Juraj Zatovic led the Trojans' scoring with his second straight four-goal effort. Juan Delgadillo turned in a three-goal performance for the Trojans, and three USC freshman tacked up their first collegiate goals in the win. Jovan Vranes, Arjan Ligtenberg and Matt Aksel got their Trojan careers rolling with a goal apiece against Redlands.
