Trojans Wild About 3-1 Victory At California

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Senior shortstop Anthony Lunetta scored twice on a wild pitch Thursday and the USC Trojans won their season-high fifth straight game with a 3-1 victory against the California Golden Bears in Pac-10 Conference action at Evans Diamond. The Trojans are a game and a half behind first-place Stanford, which hosts Oregon State tonight, and a half-game behind second-place Arizona State, which hosts UCLA tonight.
The Trojans (20-17, 6-4) were held to a season-low four hits on the afternoon, but got a key hit from Jon Brewster with an RBI double in the eighth for the 3-1 lead. Josh Rummonds and Bret Butler combined to throw four scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win for freshman left-hander Bobby Paschal (3-4). Butler earned his fourth save of the season.
California (21-19, 6-7) scored its lone run in the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Brian Horwitz.
