LOS ANGELES - Junior right-hander Brian Bannister did not allow a run in the first seven innings Saturday and the USC Trojans defeated the UCLA Bruins, 7-4, in Pac-10 Conference action at Dedeaux Field. With the win, the Trojans recorded their first series win since a sweep at home against South Alabama (Feb. 14-16).
Bannister allowed three runs in the eighth inning after the Trojans built a 7-0 lead. He retired the side three times.
USC improves to 17-17 overall and 4-4 in Pac-10 play while UCLA falls to 17-21 overall and 3-5 in conference.
Anthony Lunetta and Travis McAndrews went 3-for-4 for the Trojans as the team used a 13-hit attack to hand UCLA starter Wes Whisler (4-4) the loss. Whisler went five innings, allowing seven runs on 12 hits.
