WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- USC junior forward Jessica Edwards has been named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Edwards, from Mesa, Ariz., made it a memorable homecoming last week, helping the Trojans to a pair of overtime Pac-10 wins at Arizona State and Arizona.
Against the 17th-ranked Sun Devils Oct. 18, Edwards notched the golden goal with 15 seconds remaining in double-overtime as USC prevailed, 2-1. Edwards scored the first goal in a 2-1 overtime win over the Wildcats Oct. 20. The victory at ASU snapped the Sun Devils' seven-game win streak, dating back to Sept. 13.
USC (8-4-3 overall, 3-1-0 Pac-10) is ranked 17th in this week's NSCAA/adidas poll and 11th by Soccer America. The Trojans are tied for second place in the Pac-10 with UCLA and host the No. 7/No. 5 rival Bruins Sunday at 1 p.m.
This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Edwards and USC's 15th such honor all-time.
