TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite playing short-handed, Ali Fennell scored in overtime Sunday and the No. 12 USC Trojans defeated the Arizona Wildcats, 2-1, in Pac-10 Conference action. The match went to overtime after Arizona tied the game with under four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Trojans (8-4-3, 3-1) played the overtime period without junior forward Megan Abbamonto, who received her second yellow card of the match with five seconds remaining in regulation. With the red card, Abbamonto must sit out next Sunday's match against UCLA.

USC got off the first three shots of the game during the first 12 minutes, but Arizona (5-7-1, 0-3) had its chances in the early goings as well.

At 26:19, Ashley Casas sent a pass from the left side to Jessica Edwards, who struck from the right side when Wildcat freshman goalkeeper Natalie Juarez slipped. It was Edwards' second goal in as many games as she scored the overtime winner in Friday's 2-1 win at Arizona State.

Two minutes later, Arizona had a chance to score the equalizer when it was awarded a penalty kick after Naomi Chu was fouled in the box. Freshman forward Erin Clewett took the PK for Arizona, but it was stopped by USC goalkeeper Julie Peterson.

After being out-shot, 11-5, in the first half, Arizona clamped down on USC and out-shot the Women of Troy, 6-5, in the second half. In the 79th minute, freshman Mallory Miller sent a rocket from about 20 yards out, which Peterson stopped. With less than four minutes left in regulation, Kelly Nelson carried the ball through the USC defense and pushed it forward to fellow freshman Maggie MacCool, who sent the game into overtime with her fifth goal of the season at 86:29. The assist was Nelson's first of the season.

Initially, it appeared that Arizona might be able to take advantage of the situation, when freshman defender Jennifer Klein sent a corner kick into the box at 91:56, but Kelly Nelson's consequent header was wide left. Two minutes later, Fennell took a long ball from Amanda Roach and tipped the game-winner past Natalie Juarez at 93:42.

USC will host UCLA in a crucial Pac-10 game next Sunday (Oct. 27) at 1 p.m. at McAlister Field. ###
