Park and Peterson Advance To Second Round

Farmers Branch, Tex. - Andrew Park and Jewel Peterson each advanced to the second round of the ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships played in Farmers Branch, Texas, Feb. 1-4. Park and Peterson won the men's and women's Rolex Regional Championship in November to earn a bid to the collegiate grand slam tournament.
Park, who is 16-3 this season in singles competition, defeated Jaime Gresh of Penn State in the first round 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Thursday. In the second round, Park was eliminated by No. 1 seed Genius Chidzikwe of SMU 6-1, 6-3.
Peterson entered the tournament as a No. 5-8 seed and defeated Maria Galoustove-Phillips of Oklahoma State 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round. In the second round, Peterson fell to Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine in a close three-set match 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
The USC men's and women's tennis teams play four nonconference matches this week. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the men face San Diego, then host Georgia Tech on Thursday, Feb. 8. The women host San Diego State on Wednesday, Feb. 7, then welcome Pepperdine on Friday, Feb. 9. All four matches will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
