Honolulu, HI-- - The No. 3 USC women's golf team put in a valiant effort but couldn't hold off Arizona and Pepperdine as the Women of Troy finished a strong third in the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament which concluded on Thursday (Mar. 30) at the Olomana Golf Links in Honolulu, Haw.
USC, playing without freshman sensation Candie Kung (she played in the Nabisco Invitational last weekend), averaged 296 in the first two rounds and was seven strokes behind leader Pepperdine and two strokes ahead of third place Arizona heading into the final day. However, the Women of Troy shot a final team round of 305 and wound up with a total of 897, third behind tournament champion Arizona (883)and Pepperdine (885).
Freshman Mikaela Parmlid filled in nicely for Kung and fired a 224, which placed her in fourth place overall and eight strokes behind individual champion Cristina Baena of Arizona (213). Baena won a playoff with teammate Jenna Daniels (213) to get the win.
For USC, sophomore Leila Chartrand finished tied for seventh (226), senior Linda Ishii finished tied for 10th (227), freshman Yon Yim finished tied for 12th (228) and junior Nicole Dalkas finished tied for 14th (229).
