TEMPE, Ariz. -- Both USC track and field teams finished second to Indiana at the ASU/USTCA Invitational held at Sun Angel Stadium on Saturday (Mar. 18).
Host Arizona State, Wisconsin (men's side only) and Tennessee (women's side only) also participated in the four-way meet.
The Trojans had several solid performances: USC won the women's 400-meter relay in 43.76 -- the fourth best time in Women of Troy history, sophomore Candace Young won the 100-meter dash in a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11.49, sophomore Angela Williams, the defending NCAA 100-meter champ, won the 200-meter dash in 23.89, sophomore Van Mounts won the shot put with a personal-best distance of 61-0 3/4 (10th on USC's all-time charts), junior Andre Ammons took the 400-meter dash in a personal-best 46.69, senior Felix Sanchez' 800-meter win in 1:51.49 was also a personal-best, freshman hurdlers Marcell Allmond (14.17) and Ryan Wilson (14.25) had personal-bests in the 110-meter hurdles.
USC sends split squads to compete at UC San Diego, Stanford and Cal State Northridge next Saturday (Mar. 25), then returns home April 1 (Saturday) to host LSU, North Carolina and Nebraska at Cromwell Field in what figures to be the best four-way meet in the nation this year.
