Park, Peterson Represent Trojans at ITA Championships

DALLAS, TEX. -- After claiming their prospective ITA Region VIII Championships in the Fall, tennis stand-outs Andrew Park and Jewel Peterson competed at the 1999 Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Feb. 3-5. The tournament, which concluded Sunday, was hosted by Southern Methodist University at the Brookhaven Country Club located outside of Dallas, Tex.
Peterson was one six freshman competing in this year's women's singles field. Among the six, Adria Engel of Wake Forest, Laura Granville of Stanford and Peterson are all ranked in the Top 10 of the latest WingspanBan.com Collegiate Rankings.
In the first round of singles competition on Thursday (Feb. 3), Park fell to Rodrigo Echagaray of Kansas, 4-6, 6-1, 0-6 (8-5). On the women's side, fourth-ranked Peterson faced freshman Mira Radu of Mississippi. She was also defeated, 3-6, 3-6. Both opponents were eventually defeated in the second round of play.
