LOS ANGELES -- The USC men's water polo team received an at-large bid today for the 2000 NCAA Championships to be held Dec. 2-3 at Pepperdine University. The Trojans are the No. 2 seed for the four-team tournament, which features No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 UC San Diego and No. 4 Navy.
UCLA and Navy will play on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on the Pepperdine campus in Malibu while the Trojans will face UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m. The third-place match will take place on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. with the national championship match taking place at 2:30 p.m.
USC has a 22-4 overall record this season. One of the deciding factors in the Trojans' bid possibly was USC's 3-0 record in 2000 against UC Irvine, which finished fourth at the MPSF Tournament last weekend in Los Alamitos.
The Trojans defeated UC San Diego, 7-5, in the only meeting this season between the two teams on Sept. 24.
USC is looking for its second national championship in three years. The Trojans won the national title in 1998.
