LOS ANGELES - The USC baseball team is ranked No. 11 in the Baseball America preseason poll. Previously, the Trojans earned a preseason nod of No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball.
In addition, sophomore RHP Mark Prior was named a preseason All-American second teamer, while junior SS Seth Davidson made the third team.
Of the top 25 teams, USC will meet eight in 2000: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Cal State Fullerton, No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Houston, No. 9 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Loyola Marymount, No. 19 Arizona and No. 22 Arizona State.
One good omen, perhaps: the last time Stanford was ranked No. 1 in the preseason by Baseball America -- 1998 -- USC went on to win the national championship.
