FRESNO, Calif. - Junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey became the USC women's soccer team's all- time leading point scorer, but it wasn't enough as the No. 6 Women of Troy were upset by Fresno State, 2-1, at Bulldog Stadium on Thursday night.
"Fresno State came to play tonight and we did not, so I'm very disappointed," USC Coach Jim Millinder said. "Our effort needs to be much better. We didn't win balls, we weren't able to complete passes and we weren't able to create scoring opportunities."
The Bulldogs (8-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. USC sophomore goalkeeper Shaelyn Fernandes and FSU sophomore forward Morgan Oliveira collided going for the ball just to the right of the goal, and Oliveira kept her footing, took a dribble backward and blasted it into the far side of the net.
Fresno State extended the lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute, as junior forward Jill Pearson hit a one- timer from about 10 yards out off Oliveira's cross.
USC (6-3) scored its one goal in the 59th minute. Junior forward Kaylee Whitfield was knocked down in the box and the Women of Troy were awarded a penalty kick. Harvey converted the penalty kick, giving her 92 points in her career and passing Courtney Barham's record of 91.
The Women of Troy put extra effort into the attack in the final 30 minutes, but came away with very few chances. For the match, Fresno State outshot USC, 11-6.
After beating four ranked teams in a row, USC has now lost its last two matches.
