LOS ANGELES - The USC women's tennis team defeated Miami, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Championships.
The match came down to the last doubles match-up of USC's Jacqui Boyd and Caroline Christian against Miami's Eva Jimenez and Meredith Laughlin. Boyd/Christian earned the victory and clinched the match for USC with a 8-4 win.
The Women of Troy will advance to quarterfinal play on Friday (May 21) at 4:00 EDT against conference-rival Stanford. USC advances to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1990.
