LOS ANGELES - Despite a 25-12 shot advantage, the USC women's soccer team could only manage a tie against Fresno State, 2-2, at the Coliseum on Friday afternoon.
The Women of Troy are now 4-3-1, while the Bulldogs are 2-4-2.
USC junior forward Kim Clark opened the scoring in the 13th minute when she took a pass from sophomore midfielder Isabelle Harvey and blasted a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Women of Troy dominated the first 30 minutes of play and didn't allow the Bulldogs to take a shot until the 31st minute. But USC failed to extend its lead and Fresno State tied the game, 1-1, in the 41st minute. Bulldog junior midfielder Sarah Yudin's free kick from midfield was knocked down in the box by a USC defender, but right to freshman midfielder Aimee Thompson, who scored.
Senior forward Courtney Barham, USC's all-time leading goal scorer, got the 32nd of her career in the 56th minute to put USC back on top, 2-1. Harvey earned her second assist, crossing the ball from the right side to Barham, who headed it in.
The Bulldogs came right back two minutes later, as freshman forward Jill Pearson's corner kick found its way to freshman midfielder Morgan Oliveira, who one-timed it home and tied the game, 2-2, in the 58th minute.
In the two 15-minute overtime periods, USC took five shots to Fresno State's three, and the Women of Troy's best chance may have come in the final minute when senior midfielder Carol Hatcher headed a ball just over the crossbar.
The Women of Troy travel to Loyola Marymount on Sunday (Sept. 27) for a 1 p.m. match.
