FULLERTON, Calif. - The USC women's soccer team broke out of its scoring funk and defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-1, on the road on Thursday night.
Sophomore forward Isabelle Harvey scored a goal and added an assist for USC (5-4-1), which had only scored three goals in its last four games.
Harvey scored first in the 36th minute, helping USC to a 1-0 halftime lead. She took a pass from senior midfielder Carol Hatcher, made a brilliant turn to beat a defender and drove a shot past the Fullerton goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the year.
The Titans (4-7) rallied to tie the game early in the second half, however. Dolores Browning blasted in a shot from 20 yards out in the 55th minute to tie the game.
But the Women of Troy, which outshot the Titans 23-13, finally put a few of their chances away. In the 70th minute, junior midfielder Kim Clark took a pass from Harvey, beat one defender and ricocheted a shot off the left post and into the net.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Ticehurst added an insurance goal in the 89th minute when she took an errant pass and knocked it in from about 35 yards out.
USC freshman goalkeeper Shaelyn Fernandes, making her first collegiate start, had six saves.
USC next travels to UC Irvine on Sunday for a 3 p.m. match.
