Water Polo Wins a Close One, 12-11

SAN DIEGO - Junior 2-meter man James Castle scored a pair of fourth-quarter goals, including the eventual game-winner with 2:58 remaining, as the top-ranked USC men's water polo team held off UC San Diego, 12-11, on Sunday.
USC jumped out to a 2-0 first-quarter lead, but after the Tritons closed to 2-1, neither team led by more than a goal throughout the see-saw battle. The 10th-ranked Tritons led 5-4 at halftime.
UCSD had an 11-10 lead with five minutes left, but USC sophomore driver George Csaszar tied the score with 3:55 left and Castle's goal with 2:58 left proved to be the game-winner.
USC improved to 15-1 while UCSD fell to 12-8.
USC was led by senior driver Marko Pintaric's three points, while Castle, Csaszar, freshman 2-meter man Ivan Babic and junior driver Allen Basso each had two goals.
The Trojans host UC Santa Barbara on Saturday (Oct. 31) at approximately 11:30 a.m. (at the end of the USC Swimming Invitational).
