Trojans Edge Long Beach St. in MPSF Tourney Opener

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - USC's Peter Janov and James Castle each scored two goals to lead the No. 1 Trojans past No. 8 Long Beach State, 6-5, in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Water Polo Tournament.
The 49ers scored the game's first two goals, but USC came back to score the next three and would never trail again. Trojan goalkeeper Rich McEvoy recorded seven saves.
USC returns to action tomorrow (Nov. 28) when it takes on fourth-ranked Stanford in the semifinals. The winner of that match will face the Pepperdine-UC Irivne winner in the MPSF title match on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2:30 p.m.
