AUSTIN, Texas - Texas came from behind to defeat No. 1 USC in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, as freshman Jeff Ontiveros hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Longhorns a 9-8 victory, and a three-game series sweep.
USC fell to 1-3 overall, while Texas improved to 5-0.
Texas held a 5-3 lead heading into the final two innings, but USC scored four runs in the top of the eighth to take a 7-5 lead. Senior RF Greg Hanoian had an RBI bunt single and junior C Eric Munson drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
But the Longhorns scored once in the bottom of the eighth, then led off the ninth with a single, a sacrifice and the home run.
Senior RHP Steve Immel (0-1) did a nice job in relief before giving up the home run and took the loss.
The Trojans were led by senior LF/2B Dominic Correa, who went 3-for-5, and Munson and Hanoian, who each had two hits.
USC will try to snap its losing streak on Wednesday when it travels to Loyola Marymount for a 2 p.m. game.
