Munson's Homer Leads Baseball Over Arizona, 8-5

LOS ANGELES - Junior C Eric Munson's two-run home run highlighted a six-run fifth inning for the USC baseball team, as the Trojans defeated No. 23 Arizona, 8-5, in a Pacific-10 Conference game at Dedeaux Field on Sunday afternoon.
USC (14-14 overall, 5-1 Pac-10) took two of three games from Arizona (20-11, 3-3) over the weekend.
Trailing 4-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, the first five Trojan batters had hits, including RBI singles by freshman 3B Beau Craig and junior 1B Justin Gemoll. A wild pitch scored the third run of the frame. Following a double play, Munson launched his 10th home run of the year on top of the parking structure in right-center field. Senior 2B Dominic Correa would later complete the rally with an RBI single (his second hit of the inning). In all, the Trojans sent 12 batters to the plate and had eight hits in the inning.
USC senior RHP Justin Lehr (2-1) had a rocky start, but settled down and went 6 2/3 innings, striking out six and giving up four runs, eight hits and zero walks. Senior LF/LHP Jason Lane slugged a solo home run over the center-field fence in the bottom of the seventh, then pitched the final two innings.
Arizona RF Shelley Duncan set a Wildcat freshman record with his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning that gave the Wildcats a 4-1 lead.
Arizona junior RHP Michael Crawford (2-4) pitched four innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, and was tagged with the loss.
Gemoll went 3-for-4 for the Trojans, while Munson, Lane, Correa and sophomore SS Seth Davidson each had two hits. Junior CF Troy Gingrich, sophomore SS Keoni DeRenne and sophomore 1B Ernie Durazo all had a pair of hits for the Wildcats.
USC's next game is at Pepperdine on Wednesday (March 24) at 2 p.m.
