Men's Water Polo Wins So-Cal Tournament

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - The USC men's water polo team was victorious at this weekend's Southern California Tournament, beating each of the top three ranked teams along the way.
USC should receive the No. 1 ranking this week after entering the tournament ranked sixth.
The Trojans have appeared in the championship game of the So-Cal Tournament an unprecedented seven years in a row. This is the second time in that run that USC has won the title.
In the championship at Newport Harbor High School on Sunday evening, the Trojans defeated No. 2 UCLA, 11-7 as senior driver Marko Pintaric, junior 2-meter man Peter Janov and sophomore driver George Csaszar each had three points. Junior goalie Richard McEvoy made eight saves.
In a semifinal earlier on Sunday, the Trojans downed No. 3 California, 11-6, as Pintaric and junior 2-meter man James Castle each had two goals.
The Trojans reached the championship round with wins over No. 1 Stanford, 7-6, and No. 11 Air Force, 16-3.
Janov had three points and freshman 2-meter man Ivan Babic had two goals in the win against the Cardinal, as the Trojans scored three goals to Stanford's two in the final period.
Junior 2-meter man James Castle and freshman 2-meter man Chris Hamme each had three goals in the win over Air Force.
The Trojans open MPSF play on Saturday (Sept. 26) at Pepperdine at noon.
