Men's Water Polo Blows Out UCSB, 12-4

LOS ANGELES - Freshman 2-meter man Ivan Babic scored five goals to lead the No. 1 USC men's water polo team over No. 9 UC Santa Barbara, 12-4, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Junior 2-meter man Peter Janov and senior driver Marko Pintaric also scored three points apiece for the Trojans (16-1 overall, 5-0 in the MPSF). The Gauchos fell to 6-10, 0-6.
USC opened the match with two goals from sophomore driver George Csaszar and Babic. UC Santa Barbara rallied back to tie the score with 5:23 left in the second quarter on two goals from sophomore driver Joey Pacelli, but that was the closest the Gauchos ever came again to the Trojans.
USC scored nine points over the the second and third quarters to lead the Gauchos, 11-4, at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Junior goalies Darin Smith and Ian Laughlin came in during the fourth quarter, replacing starter Rich McEvoy, and shut down UC Santa Barbara. The Trojans added one final goal in the last minute of the game by Janov for the final margin.
USC next hosts Stanford on Sunday (Nov. 1) at noon.
