Etherton a Finalist for Golden Spikes Award

LOS ANGELES - Seth Etherton, who led the USC baseball team to the 1998 national championship, was named one of five finalists for the 1998 Golden Spikes Award, given to the top player in amateur baseball.
USA Baseball made the announcement on Tuesday. The other four finalists are Jeff Austin of Stanford, Pat Burrell of Miami, Eddy Furniss of LSU and Brad Wilkerson of Florida.
Etherton was 13-3 with a 3.23 ERA for the Trojans in 1998. He led the nation and set a Pac-10 record with 182 strikeouts in 136 2/3 innings.
He was drafted in the first round (18th overall) by the Anaheim Angels, and is currently pitching for their AA team in Midland, Texas.
The winner will be chosen on October 28.
