Csaszar Lifts Water Polo to Victory

LOS ANGELES - George Csaszar, a sophomore driver from Hungary making his first collegiate appearance, had one of the best performances in recent Trojan history and lifted the No. 5 USC men's water polo team to a 12-6 victory over No. 9 Long Beach State at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Tuesday night.
Csaszar scored seven goals and had eight points overall to lead the Trojans (1-0) to victory in their season opener. The 49ers fell to 1-1.
The Trojans had first-half leads of 4-0 and 6-1, though the 49ers rallied to pull within one goal in the third quarter.
But Csaszar scored all six of USC's second-half points, including a two-pointer with 5:39 to play in the fourth quarter that upped the Trojans' lead from 7-6 to 9-6. He then scored the final three goals of the game.
USC single-game records go back to 1988, and the only better performance since that time was an eight-goal game by Jerry Wooden in 1993.
USC next hosts UC Davis on Friday (Sept. 18) at 1 p.m.
