PASADENA, Calif. - The top-ranked USC men's water polo team suffered only its second loss of the season, a 6-3 setback to No. 2 UCLA in the regular-season finale on Saturday at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
The Trojans fall to 21-2 overall, while the Bruins improved to 16-4. It was a non-conference contest. It was UCLA's first win over USC in the last seven games.
The USC offense was frustrated greatly by the Bruin defense and scored a season-low three goals. Junior goalie Richard McEvoy did everything he could to keep the Trojans in the game and made 10 saves.
With a 3-2 halftime lead, the Bruins got the game's next three goals to put it out of reach.
USC's goals were scored by Ivan Babic, Allen Basso and Peter Janov.
The Trojans and the Bruins will take part in the MPSF Championships next weekend (Nov. 27-29) at Newport Harbor High School. USC is the No. 1 seed.
