Baseball Sweeps Cal State Northridge With 11-6 Win

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Senior RHP Justin Lehr helped pitch and hit the No. 25 USC baseball team to an 11-6 victory over Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon.
USC (20-16), which won its fifth in a row, swept the three-game series from CSUN (20-23).
Lehr went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a two-run double in the top of the first inning as the Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead in their first at-bat. Senior CF Brad Ticehurst, junior 3B Justin Gemoll and sophomore SS Seth Davidson all had RBI singles in the rally.
On the mound, Lehr (4-1) was excellent for the first six innings, giving up two hits and no runs. But in the bottom of the seventh, the Matadors scored six runs on three hits and two Trojan errors to pull within one run, 7-6.
USC got the bats going again in the top of the eighth, scoring three times as Davidson had a sacrifice fly and senior LF Jason Lane knocked a two-run single. USC scored its final run in the top of the ninth as freshman OF Brian Barre hit the first home run of his career.
Lehr ended up going six innings with six strikeouts and gave up four hits, five walks and four runs. Sophomore RHP Rik Currier went the next 2 2/3 innings, striking out four, and senior 2B/RHP Dominic Correa came in to strike out the final Matador batter.
USC, which has won 13 of its last 16, next hosts Loyola Marymount on Tuesday (April 6) at Dedeaux Field at 7 p.m.
